Nord Trøndelag in the middle of
Norway har been flooded the last days due to mild weather and enormous
amounts of rain.
Grønøra airfield and the hangar is flooded. At the most
the water level was ca 50 cm above the hangar floor.
The two light airplanes had to be towed to safe ground by use of a
tractor. The Twin Stratus is fabric covered and dont like rain.
The solution was to lift the plane and place it on three chairs. That
way it was safe from the water.
The problem now is that it has become cold again. The temperature in
Grønøra on Friday was minus 10 degrees centigrades. If
all this water is freezing to ice, the hangar doors will be impossible
to open.
Kjell Engstrøm has taken these photos from the flood. We have
also posted some pictures taken last summer so you can compare the two
situations.

The rescue action was done when the water began to rise in the evening
Wednesday February 1. 2006.

A tractor was used to pull the two light airplanes to safe ground.

On safe ground.

At the maximum the water level was ca. 50 cm above the hangar floor,
that is a lot more than when this picture was taken.

The apron in front of the hangar Friday February 3. 2006. As one can
see, the water is freezing-up.

This is how it usually looks like.

The parking space.

Camping in a tent would be a unpleasant experience today. The picture
was taken during a fly-inn in May 2005.

The airfield looks great for sea planes.

Last summer it looked like this.

The hangardoors will be impossible to open if the water freezes-up.
So we are now keeping our fingers crossed, hoping for mild weather.
